As the end of the semester nears, I have mixed emotions of excitement and sadness. I will be graduating in May, and as this day approaches, I am reflecting more and more on my college experience. It is hard to believe so much time has passed. Although I will not miss the all-nighters and four years of living off of caffeine, I will greatly miss the experience of being a part of CAS and sharing moments of stress, laughter, and just plain ridiculousness.

I transferred to Penn State York in 2004. The moment I began my studies in CAS, students became friends and professors became mentors. I gladly accepted the position of CAS Club president, as I saw the potential for a group of incredible people to make a difference to each other, the campus, and the community. I believe we have accomplished this, and are well on the way to making an even bigger difference.

It was a challenge to increase our membership, but I want to thank you all for showing an interest and dedicating your time throughout the last two years. We successfully completed a book and supply drive for the York Literacy Council last year. It was fantastic to contribute to an organization that is giving the gift of literacy to others, thus opening a world of new experiences for people. Last fall, many of you dedicated your time to create holiday cards with careful, loving details to spread the holiday spirit to the elderly in a local nursing home. I want to leave behind a spirit of continuing progress for the CAS program. I hope you will continue to show support for CAS Club and be inspired to make an even bigger difference.

I wish each of you the best of luck with your future studies. For my fellow graduates, I wish you the best of luck in whatever life brings your way. I’m sure that we will not soon find a better group of people to encourage and support us through challenges as great as college. I know you will all find great success. Best of luck! Thank you for the great memories.

Yvonne Kline

Yvonne Kline graduated from Penn State York with her Communication Arts and Sciences degree in May, 2004. She has just received her Master's degree in Communication Studies, from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and will continue this fall working toward her doctorate at the University of South Florida.

Yvonne has donated a copy of her master's thesis to the Penn State York Lee R. Glatfelter library, and promises to do the same with her Ph.D. thesis. Her Master's thesis is titled "Deconstructing the Identity of 'Mental Illness'". The paper will be cataloged and added to the collection, after which it will be available for circulation for any who may want to read it.

You can read more about Yvonne on our Alumni page.
