Major in Communication Arts and Sciences
Students who are interested in looking at people's communicative interactions in a variety of situations would select this major. Courses for our major introduce students to basic concepts in CAS inquiry. In addition, the student is provided with a range of other courses that allow the development of a program of study that is best suited to the needs of the individual. The major consists of 27 credits of required and elective course work.

The Communication Arts and Sciences major is highly flexible and can be readily combined with a minor in many other fields of study. Some of the most common are: sociology, political science, psychology, women's studies, African American studies, business administration, and education. (In fact, the department currently cross-lists some courses with Women's Studies and African American Studies.) Many other pairings are possible and encouraged.
The baccalaureate degree program in CAS can help prepare students for professional growth. Penn State graduates in Communication Arts and Sciences are working in positions such as:
- Human resources
- Marriage and family agencies
- Employee relations
- Training and development
