Day 1 Wednesday, December 28 - Departure

Departure at 6:00 a.m. from BWI on American Airlines. Arrival in San José at 11:30 a.m. Afternoon city tour (archaeological museum, Congress, National Theater, Cathedral). The trip is fully escorted by an English-speaking guide. Overnight at Torremolinos Hotel (three stars).

Day 2 Thursday, December 29 - Tortuguero

Morning departure for Tortuguero National Park. Breakfast on the way. We’ll visit a banana plantation, see the rain forest, and Tortuguero beach, home to the leatherback turtle. Enjoy a two and a half-hour boat ride in the jungle of the rain forest and admire the unique flora and fauna of this area. Boat tour and all meals included. Overnight at Laguna Lodge (three stars).

Day 3 Friday, December 30 - Tortuguero

Explore the smaller canals and get closer to nature in Tortuguero. All meals included. Overnight at Laguna Lodge.

Day 4 Saturday, December 31 - Arenal

Bus trip to Arenal area. Visit the small towns of San Carlos dedicated to agriculture and cattle ranches. Lunch is included. The Arenal volcano, 1,633 meters above sea level, has been active since 1969. Here we’ll find curative hot springs and manicured gardens. Dinner and the visit to the Tabacón Hot Springs are included. Overnight at Arenal Paraíso. (three stars, superior rooms).

Day 5 Sunday, January 1 - Sarchi

Visit Sarchi, the artisan town known for its woodwork, oxcarts and souvenir shops. Optional tour to the Arenal Hanging Bridges (fifteen bridges, three kms of trails to view flora/fauna and the volcano - $12.) Continue to Jacó area, in the Central Pacific region, which holds some beautiful beaches, outstanding surfing, primary rain forest, and other secrets. Enjoy two nights at the Jacó Beach Resort.

Day 6 Monday, January 2 - Jacó Beach

Day at leisure. Many activities are available in the area: hiking, waterfalls, horseback riding, nature reserves, and others.

Day 7 Tuesday, January 3 - Jacó Beach

Day at leisure. We’ll spend another day at Jacó Beach before returning to San José at 6:00 p.m. Optional tour to Manuel Antonio National Park (8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. An informative guided hike in the park will visit white sand beaches, coastal rainforest, swamps, coral formations and seabird sanctuaries. The resident fauna includes monkeys, three-toed sloths and 184 species of birds. Cost: $90, lunch included). Overnight at Torremolinos Hotel.

Day 8 Wednesday, January 4 - Return

Bus transfer to the airport. Flight departs at 9:19 a.m. and arrives in BWI at 6:30 p.m.

Cost information for the Costa Rica trip


The price for the Costa Rica New Year's 2006 trip will be $1,435.00

Balance due no later than October 28, 2005

In the past Penn State students traveling abroad have received financial support from the Student Activity Fee (SAF) committee. We expect this and other aid to cover a portion of this trip. More information will be forthcoming by early September. Honors students receive additional support.


The Price Includes:

  • Round trip flights from BWI with American Airlines
  • Airport, security fees, fuel surcharge and “Q”taxes
  • Seven night hotel accommodation at three-star hotels with double occupancy
  • English speaking tour escort throughout the trip
  • All visits and sightseeing as per itinerary
  • Breakfast daily and other meals as per itinerary
  • Motor coach for transfers and long distance driving
  • Academic supervision by Dr. Cecilia Heydl-Cortinez, associate professor of Spanish

The Price Does Not Include:

  • Porters at airport and bellboys at hotels
  • Meals other than specified
  • Cost of personal items: phone, drinks, etc.
  • Optional travel insurance
  • Passport & visa fee
  • Everyone needs a valid passport. In case you are not an American citizen a visa may be required.

 

This trip is open to all Penn State students, faculty, staff, family and friends.

Terms and Conditions

Celestial Voyagers' terms depend on contracts with Delta Airlines, hotels and other suppliers. Regulations below must be strictly enforced as they are related to these contracts. Deposit: $500.00 due by September 30, 2005. Final payment due October 28, 2005 at latest.

All cancellations must be sent in writing. We strongly recommend that you avail yourself with travel insurance as a protection against these penalties. Please, check with Celestial Voyagers for travel insurance plans and premiums.
