The 2007-08 Lady Lion basketball team at Penn State York set out to improve upon last year's 4-13 overall record and 2-11 PSUAC record. The season came to a successful ending on February 23 with an exciting 71-70 victory over Penn State Worthington Scranton. The win came on the heels of an amazing 38 point performance by Nicole Davis (Northeastern). The final game win capped a productive season in the mind of second year head coach Eric Leese. Leese, who was hired to rebuild the women's basketball program, guided a Lady Lion team that doubled their wins from the previous year (8-14 overall) as well as in conference play (5-10 PSUAC) . The Lady Lions fell just short of a final spot in the play-offs, but look forward to making a strong run in the 2008-09 campaign.
York players Lindsay Mumma (Dover) and Nicole Davis (Northeastern) led the team in scoring. Both averaged just over 16 points per game. Mumma also averaged just under 10 rebounds per game and Davis drained 60 plus 3 point field goals during the year. Lindsay Metzger (Spring Grove), provided floor leadership, leading the team with 6 assists per game as well as registering 50 plus steals. Significant contributions also were made by Kaitlyn Toomey (Northeastern) second in free throw percentage, Whitney Rodkey (Dallastown) third in rebounding, Kate Musso (York Catholic) second in rebounding, and Tiffany Mummert (Central York) second in assists as well as being a top defender.
The Lady Lions of York are looking forward to being a new member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) during the 2008-09 year thus allowing the team to compete for a national championship among small schools as well as individual members of the team earning weekly awards!
