Season Summary
This year’s team had only seven team members. There were various levels all mixed together including three young ladies who had no volleyball team experience prior to Penn State York. Along with this cornucopia of players these adverse women struggled through three injuries: dislocated patella, hyperextended elbow, and a sprained ankle. Because of these injuries we creatively used the strengths of each of the remaining players and rose to the occasion time and time again. Not only were there huge physical demands but the mental demands were immense. We were forced to use five different line-ups and won at least one match in each of our different line-ups. The line-ups varied from a 5-1, 6-2, 5-2, 3-1. That is correct the 3-1 required two players to simply move off court due to their circumstances so the four able teammates could cover the floor and run their offense. My point to this summary is that with hard work and mental preparation greatness can be achieved. These seven young ladies showed heart and fight in their competitions. I am quite proud of their resiliency. These five wins showcase their desire to keep pushing themselves even when everything about the game was really challenging.
This is my first year coaching at Penn State York and it is the beginning of something just wonderful here in the volleyball hot spot of York, Pennsylvania. I am rebuilding for next season as you are reading this summary. If you are interested in joining us here at York in playing the greatest game ever, I welcome you.
