2014 Season Preview
The team this season will be utilizing a libero. With this addition to out defensive system our setter will be able to run any option due to the many consistent passes to target she receives. With our experiences returners laying the passing and attacking foundation, we will also look forward to leadership the Co-Captains, Ashley Koller and Jasmine Berry, will offer newcomers to the team. With a freshman setter Kate Basgall and Libero Kate Perry starting with the upperclassmen there will new dynamics to workout in the beginning of the season. We see the coordination and gelling of the team increase with each practice. As always all aspects of the sport will be prepped including mental player development. We will accomplish mental inner strength by focusing on the softer skills such as relaxation, rituals, positive attitude, and visualization. With the excellent work ethic the ladies have displayed so far I anticipate us moving up in the ranks and solidifying a spot in the final four competitions in State College this fall.
Last season was awesome. We rallied with the top teams and finished the season with stellar play. We took a game from the Penn State University Athletic Conference’s (PSUAC’s) No. 2 ranked Penn State Brandywine. Leadership was the key to this success.
We had talented team members to run our offense and all was going great until illness set in and our dreams of playoffs were just out of our reach. All the players on the team had to make some changes and play in different spots, but the team really rose to the occasion. This did take a lot away from our offense and we lost some very close matches. The highlight came at the end of the season when we recovered from illnesses and injuries, our team’s hard work came together as we nearly beat the No. 2 team to get into the playoffs. No, we did not win the match, but we won a game and that left us with the sweet feeling of victory of one game. That game also let us know we can compete with the best in the division.
The teamwork and team bonding was a result of the shared meals, ice cream, group hikes, and team building activities. I appreciated the hard work and dedication of the team throughout the season. I know they appreciated the hard work they put forth when they saw the results and became more competitive.
