Student Activity Fee Meeting Minutes

  1. Proposals
    1. Subsidization for Tracy Morgan show at the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center).
      Requested: $10,000. Received: $0, tabled.

      Discussion: The Pullo Center staff was asked to redo the number so that students could more easily be able to afford to attend the show with The Pullo Center meeting its costs.

    2. Subsidization for Paris trip over spring break, 2009.
      Requested: $400/student x 10 students.
      Received: $400/student x 10 students.

      Discussion: Precedent set in the past. Must do campus presentation to receive funds.

    3. Subsidization for Spain trip over spring break, 2009.
      Requested: $400/student x 10 students.
      Received: $400/student x 10 students.

      Discussion: Precedent set in the past. Must do campus presentation to receive funds.

    4. Subsidization for Etiquette Dinner primarily for IST and Business students.
      Requested: $1,077. Received: $13/student x 60 students or $780.

      Discussion: Per faculty, will not be more than 60 students; business students will pay $5 difference, IST students will use IST surcharge funds. Precedent set in the past.

    5. Black Student Union/SGA dance party, December 12, 2008.
      Requested: $400. Received: $400.

      Discussion: entire campus will benefit.

    6. Student Affairs Office request for new lion suit.
      Requested: $1,600.
      Received: $800. Remainder of funds to come from Student Affairs, Admissions, SGA, and Blue and White Society.

      Discussion: suits are used by entire campus as well as rented for off campus events.

    7. Advising and Career Center request for transportation funds forstudents to attend careers and internship fairs at UP and in the south central Pennsylvania region.
      Requested: $1,106. Received: up to $1,106.

      Discussion: Could make $$ stretch paying for gas versus mileage as they car pool; will rent van when/if necessary.

    8. Campus Senate Diversity Committee - partial funding for Arthur Romano, MLK Week speaker.
      Requested: $2,075 for fee and dinner w/students.
      Received: $2,075.

      Discussion: entire campus will benefit.
