Alpha Sigma Lambda

Alpha Sigma Lambda is an honor society which partners with colleges and universities to celebrate the scholarship and leadership of adult students in higher education. Full and part time degree seeking students are invited into the organization after they have completed a minimum of 24 PSU credits with a 3.2 GPA or higher. Benefits include motivation for students to achieve academic and leadership excellence, publication of a semi-annual newsletter, a forum for the exchange of ideas on activities and programs for adult students, scholarship opportunities through Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Education Foundation, availability of insignia pins, academic honor cords, clothing and other items, esprit de corps among nontraditional/adult students, and recognition of the achievements of adult students. An induction ceremony is sponsored in May for students meeting the requirements for membership. Contact Linda Matesevac for further information.

Adult Student Meetings

Meetings are held monthly to address issues of concern to adult students. As appropriate, campus resource people are brought in to to respond to students' needs.

Child Care

Child Care information and resources are available online. A stipend of up to $2.50/credit/week is available to part and full time students. Contact Cynthia Jones for further information.

The Mentor Program

The Mentor Program pairs new adult students with currently enrolled adult students for purposes of easing the transition back to school. As a new student it is important to know someone who is familiar with the structure and inner workings of the university. The Mentor Program provides an opportunity to get to know that other person. Benefits include strengthening a student's support system, supporting an adult's return to learning, seeing the University through another's eyes, and sharing in activities of mutual interest. Scholarship Resources

Scholarship resources specific to adult learners are distributed via email throughout the academic year. Students should also pursue scholarship search engines on the internet.

Veteran's Benefits
