Tutor Eligibility RequirementsThe Penn State York Nittany Success Center is an equal opportunity employer, and any Penn State York student may apply to become a tutor. Guidelines have been established to select students who qualify as potential tutors. Students who serve as individual tutors are selected on the following criteria: To tutor a specific course or courses, potential tutors must have taken the course, and have earned at least a B grade or higher in the subject or a higher-level course (for example, a high level math tutor may tutor lower level math courses). The course instructor recommends the student to become a tutor. This recommendation should be in written form (either a paper copy or an email), addressed to the Nittany Success Center Director or Tutor Coordinator. The student should carry a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or higher. For first semester students, the instructor's recommendation will be sufficient for that semester only. The first semester students, must average a 3.0 GPA for the semester to continue as a tutor for the Nittany Success Center. All tutors should maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to retain their position on the Peer Tutoring staff. If a tutor's GPA drops below 3.0., the Nittany Success Center Director, Tutor Coordinator and tutor will discuss continuation of the student's role as a member of the Peer Tutoring staff. The student should demonstrate effective personal interaction skills as determined by the Tutor Coordinator during the interviewing process. Continue on to the Tutor Sign-Up Form |
