Art 100 (Haag)

BOOKS

You can find books, DVDs, CDs, and links to electronic resources in Penn State’s online library catalog The CAT.

  • I recommend using the Advanced Search option
  • The CAT uses single quote marks for phrase searching
  • If the item you want is not at the York campus, request it by clicking “I Want It.” You will be asked for your Access ID and password. Select York as the pickup location and then click Place Hold. Books usually arrive at our campus within 2-3 days.

DATABASES

  • ARTstor – excellent database of digital images of works of art and of artifacts of visual culture. Use double quote marks for “phrase searching.”
  • Oxford Art Online - An online reference source which includes Grove Art Online (a scholarly art encyclopedia covering all aspects of Western and non-Western visual art) and the full text of The Dictionary of Art. Contains biographical information and images. Use double quote marks for “phrase searching.”

  • Gale Virtual Reference Library – Many of the artists on your list can be found in the one of the subject encyclopedias, such as the Encyclopedia of World Biography, which are part of the Gale Virtual Reference Library.
  • Academic Search Complete – Search for your artist’s name (again, using double quotes) and then try combining the name with other keywords, such as interview, reviews, or exhibits. You will probably have to use the Get It! button to find the full text.

  • ProQuest (multiple databases) – Search for your artist’s name (using double quote marks) and then try combining the name with other keywords, such as interview, reviews, or exhibit.

IMAGES
