Write several--approximately 4-6--anecdotes. Model them after those John Cage wrote for his book, Silence (Wesleyan), and recorded for his LP, Indeterminacy (Smithsonian/Folkways). Also keep in mind the exemplary short narratives of Laurie Anderson, Lynda Barry, Kevin Kling, and Bailey White. Subject matter is up to you, but realize that you will be asked to tape your best work and to display it on the W3.
Because this is a creative writing assignment, you are not expected to write anecdotes that slavishly replicate the conventional, six-part form outlined by William Labov. Your work should create what we might call "art effects."
