The Balkan Peninsula, in continental Europe, was known as the “Balkan Powder Keg” – any day some Slavic Nationalist was going to light a match – and then – BOOM! In June of 1914 Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria, with his wife Sophia, was visiting Sarajevo, Bosnia. A nineteen-year-old male, Gavrilo Princip, and six others had formed a splinter terrorist group from the Pan-Slavic movement. Their plan: kill the duke – set the Slavic people free! As the parade line moved through the city six out of the seven males failed to achieve their goal – Gavrilo did. He shot the duke, who died on the way to the hospital, and shot his wife, who died immediately. WWI was born!

What am I saying?! You know all of this – we studied it – remember?
