Course Requirements
- Read a minimum of 70 books appropriate for students from pre-school through sixth grade. (Note: 70 is a minimum number and does not imply an A for this course.
- Complete the annotated bibliography according to the instructions found in the student packet.
- Read Trelease's The Read Aloud Handbook.
- Be prepared for quizzes based on assigned readings.
- Be prepared to discuss the books you've read for each class. Evaluation is based on brevity and ability to make the book interesting.
- Examine children's magazines and professional journals and complete the worksheet that will be provided.
- Visit a public or school library and complete the nonfiction worksheet that will be provided.
- Present a 10 to 15 minute oral report. This report may be on a particular author or genre. Evaluation is based on: originality, extent of preparation, presentation, and not exceeding the time limit.
- Examine three (3) web sites that focus on children's literature and annotate them.
- Take a midterm examination.
