Course Requirements

  1. Read a minimum of 70 books appropriate for students from pre-school through sixth grade. (Note: 70 is a minimum number and does not imply an A for this course.
  2. Complete the annotated bibliography according to the instructions found in the student packet.
  3. Read Trelease's The Read Aloud Handbook.
  4. Be prepared for quizzes based on assigned readings.
  5. Be prepared to discuss the books you've read for each class. Evaluation is based on brevity and ability to make the book interesting.
  6. Examine children's magazines and professional journals and complete the worksheet that will be provided.
  7. Visit a public or school library and complete the nonfiction worksheet that will be provided.
  8. Present a 10 to 15 minute oral report. This report may be on a particular author or genre. Evaluation is based on: originality, extent of preparation, presentation, and not exceeding the time limit.
  9. Examine three (3) web sites that focus on children's literature and annotate them.
  10. Take a midterm examination.
