ABSTRACT:
Bimax, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals, is located in Glen Rock, PA. The company specializes in developing functional monomers and specialty polymers used in a wide variety of high tech applications such as soft contact lenses, liquid crystal display (LCD) screens, dental resins, aerospace and many others.
In order to manufacture our products, we use many famous organic name reactions at the commercial scale. Among those employed at Bimax are the Claisen Rearrangement, the Michael Addition, the Williamson Ether Synthesis, the Ritter Reaction, the Schotten-Baumann Reaction and Olefin Metathesis (Grubbs Reaction).
We hope in this presentation that when you ask yourselves “ Why do I have to know that?” you will have a better understanding of how the things you are learning today in your courses have actual practical application in industry.
